BEATY BOOKLET
Beaty booklet is a promotional print piece for the Beaty Biodiversity Museum. The main goal was to design a direct mail campaign targeting residents of the Greater Vancouver, with the purpose of informing, educating, and inspiring them about the museum and a specific exhibit.
CHALLENGES
Direct mail piece design
The mail piece design should capture the recipient's attention and ensure the content is engaging and relevant.
Layout & Spacing
Effectively utilize limited space while maintaining readability and visual appeal. Ensure that the content is organized in a cohesive and engaging manner.
Typography
The selected typography should ensure readability in limited space, establish a clear hierarchy for key information, maintain brand consistency, legibility, and address printing constraints.
MY APPROACH
8 Panel Foldy Zine
After researching different foldable brochures, I found this foldy zine very appropriate for this project. Its compact size offers easy distribution, engaging design, and an interactive experience for readers through folding and unfolding.
Grid System
To allow the content to be organized in a cohesive and engaging manner, I decided to implement a modular grid system that adapts perfectly to the booklet shape.
Typeface pairing
The selected typography should ensure readability in limited space, clear hierarchy for key information, maintain brand consistency, legibility, and address printing constraints.
THE RESULT
Final design
The final design is a double-sided mail piece that works well as both a book and promotional flyer. Additionally, the booklet offers a different interactive experience and well-structured content.
Front side
The front side of the booklet was designed to be a small book where readers find general museum information.
Back side
The backside design is an unfolded flyer that shows information about the exhibit. This design offers different ways to read and interact with the booklet.
TAKEAWAYS
What did I learn?
This project helped me develop creative problem-solving skills in addressing the different design challenges and constraints. The proper use of the museum's branding allowed me to maintain consistency overall by focusing on the brand essence and their target audience.
What it can be improved?
While the direct mail piece offers an interactive experience, integrating digital channels such as a QR code linking to additional online content, or a social media campaign, could provide opportunities for further interaction and engagement with the museum.
